Mercy Holistic Ministry Uses Bikes to Bring Hope

Updated: Jul 10

At Mercy Holistic Ministry we are committed to changing lives. During March and May, MHM donated 37 bikes to members of the Sacramento homeless community, encouraging them by the gift of transportation to get to job interviews or to work. One of the bike recipients was Lamar Johnston.

Lamar met Berhanu Didanu, Founder and Executive Director of MHM, on May 7th at the intersection of 13th and C Streets near the shower site. Berhanu asked Lamar what she would do if we gave her a free bike. She explained that when she had a car, she had delivered food for DoorDash, but she lost the car.

Lamar said that if she received a bike, she would start DoorDash deliveries with it the next day. Based on that, we gave her a bike. She now supports herself with a DoorDash job using the bike.

Thanks to those who support Mercy Holistic Ministry by donating bikes, providing financial support, or volunteering. These contributions help people in more ways than just providing showers. Lamar Johnston's story is just one example of how our efforts are making a difference. We continue to ask for and thank you for your contributions, whether monthly, yearly, or whenever you feel led to give.
